The AKC says the perfect way to describe the Pug Breed is "A lot of dog in a small space! That sounds so much more fitting in French "Beaucoup de chien dans un petit espace!' The Pug is said to have come from China, where rumor has it they lived in the lap of Royalty or uh, well they were treated as Royalty. In Holland they call them Mopshond, which in Dutch means "to grumble." That may well be because even with being known to be quiet dogs they are known to be vocal occasionally. So if you have a Pug you likely will at some point hear a bark, whine, beg, snorting, yapping and perhaps even a grumble! All grumbling aside, there is no doubt when you spend time with a Pug you will soon find out that Pugs thrive on being your companion. They will be happy staying home with you or going to the dog park. They average 14-16 pounds, and will overeat when given the chance, don't we all? For their health, it's recommended that you keep your Pug friend at a healthy weight to avoid complications with their breathing and life span. This will take a lot of willpower, for you that is, I mean have you looked in those eyes? Seriously though, all Pugs will have some degree of brachycephalic syndrome, which causes respiratory and eye problems. Brachychycephalic simply means short nosed, those smooshy cute faces do have short noses! Thank you for reading a little about the Pug Breed! I hope you enjoyed your visit and come again soon!
